It was a troubling time in my life. One crisis led to another, and there was a lot of anxiety and worry. It was all spinning out of control. Who could make sense of all this mess? Enter God’s majesty. Not the cruise ship Majesty or Queen Elizabeth or LaBron James, but Jesus Christ the Lord. Only His rightful rule and kingship is true majesty. Majesty is a word that directly describes God, and His majesty is on display and it greatly impacts your life.
In Luke 9:37-45, a young boy is possessed by a demon. It is a brutal scene, and his father is distraught and begs the disciples to do something about it, but they can’t. The father approaches Jesus and begs him to help. Jesus shakes his head and comments on “the faithless and twisted generation.” Despite all they had seen and done with Jesus, in His presence and by His power, they were still of weak and small faith. Jesus showed His glory and majesty by rebuking the demon and healing the boy, then giving him back to his father. “And all were astonished at the majesty of God, and marveling at everything He was doing.” His majesty was clear for everyone to see.
Christ has power and dominion and authority over all areas of life, what is seen or unseen. His majesty exists and is true, regardless of what you believe. It is whole and restores what is infected and broken. It is compassionate in bringing peace and making all things new. It is seen in miraculous and amazing events, such as healings and casting out demons, yet also in ordinary events, such as gathering at church, strength in the midst of suffering, overcoming addictions, healthy marriages, or mending relationships. God’s majesty is displayed when His people shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life. Do you see it? Don’t miss God’s majesty!
Are you astonished and marveling at God’s majesty? What about God makes you sit down to ponder and say, “Wow!” Or are you too busy and too caught up in life, too much crisis and worry and anxiety? Bring your burdens to the Savior and lay them down. Look full in His wonderful face! Behold His majesty and He will heal the hurts of your life. My life is not “peaches and cream and sunshine and roses” all the time. There are plenty of red lights and curves in the road, but keeping it in perspective and seeing the troubles in light of God’s majesty, has made all the difference.
