how to live in hard times (from 2 Peter 1)

How should Christians live in these difficult times? God’s divine power has given you all things that pertain to life and holiness. He’s left nothing to chance, no catches or loopholes. In Christ, you have everything you need to live a life that honors God. This comes through knowing Him. Remember that He called you to His own glory and excellence. He’s made many great and precious promises to you, and you are His and He is yours. You are not part of the corruption and sin of the world, you are to be “in the world” but not “of the world.” You are His “stuff” and He takes care of His possessions. “Who you are in Christ” fuels “how to live for Christ” in these dark days. As you receive and believe His promises, you are changed and restored. You become sanctified and God-glorifying. This is who you were meant to be.

So how are you to live? Does your faith and belief line up with what you do? Or, does your behavior “sync” with your belief? Because He has made you His, make every effort to grow in Christ. How are you rating on the holiness meter today? Are you fighting the good fight and killing the remaining sin within you? Add virtue to your faith, and knowledge, self-control, perseverance, and godliness. At the end of it all, love one another. If these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t be a fool: if you lack these qualities, you are blind and forget what God has done for you. You don’t want to be on the wrong side. Are you really a Christian? Prove it. Live like it.

So be diligent and work hard. Confirm who you are in Christ. Make sure you are His and He is yours. The way to do this is to live out the Christian life (with faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, and love). If you do these things you won’t fail in the end. Do these things and there will be a rich reward: entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Remember the good news of Jesus cleans you of all your sins. Do not move past the gospel but remember it and enjoy it every day. It is God’s grace that changes you from the inside out.

Life is hard and the world waxes worse. We need to be reminded of Christ’s truths in today’s day and age. It’s easy to forget and get caught up in “now.” We are fragile and fleeting and weak. Time is ticking away. We need stirred up to remember and I’m reminding you today. [2 Peter 1:1-15]
