the gospel is good news

There is a lot of headache and heartache in the world. The problem in the world is sin. “All creation groans.” In the beginning, God created and established reality, the way things are supposed to be, and things were good. God is holy, just, perfect, a good creator, and a good ruler of His creation. He is worthy of all praise, glory, and worship. Then things went sideways. Sin entered the world, and we have today— warped, confused, in pain. Suicide. Cancer. Brokenness. Adam and Eve rebelled against God, disobeyed God, and rejected God’s love and instruction, and this is the result. This is the same problem you have today. We, like sheep, have gone astray. We turn to our own ways. No one is good, no one does good. This is why life is hard and sucks.

Rebellion against God will not be tolerated. Any and all sin, large or small, is against God. It is a grievous, heavy, serious, and weighty matter. Rebellion and rejecting God deserve judgment. How will God judge you? You are guilty. You fall short of His perfection and glory. And the payment for this rebellion is death, punishment, wrath, and hell. You are in deep trouble. I pray you realize and feel the weight of your sin against God today; let that sink in. If you continue on this path, it won’t end well for you. You can’t mock God and get away with it; you can’t run a game on God. His justice will prevail.

But there is hope. There is a way, and truth, and life, and light to be found. It comes in a person, Jesus. Jesus is the answer. God sent Jesus into the broken world to fix the sin problem. Your sin can be forgiven through Christ, because of the cross, because He receives the judgment you were due, if you trust and believe in Him. God laid your sin on Him, God charges the punishment of your sin on Jesus. God is fixing the sin problem and Jesus is the solution. He is a perfect man and a perfect God, born of the virgin, who came into this world to fulfill the law, and to redeem (pay for) sinners. He died on the cross in your place, to take your place, to substitute for you, if you believe. You have to believe He is the way and truth, and if you repent and turn from your sin, if you trust and believe in Him, if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, who did this for you, you will be saved. There is hope.

And if you are born again, if you have new life through and with Jesus, there is peace and comfort. There is hope. You can persevere through poor health and loneliness and hardship. You can have joy in your new relationship with Him. And when you die or He returns in all His glory, as He said He would, you will be accepted and welcomed in. You will live with Him forever. This is the good news.
