What do you need to know in the midst of your crisis? When the storm comes, your heart is racing and anxiety runs high. When dark clouds settle in, what do you need to know? Or, who do you need to know? “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs (Hebrews 1:1-4).”
God speaks by His Son. He is the great and last Prophet, the final Prophet, Priest, and King. He speaks words of truth, grace, love, mercy, and comfort. He said, “Come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” He has the words of eternal life. He said, “Father, forgive them,” and “my peace I give to you, not as the world gives.” Pay attention to what He says today, in His Word. And you can talk to Him. Bring Him your worries and fears. He is listening and speaking in the midst of your crisis.
And He created the world and upholds the universe by the word of His power. The heavens declare all the glories of God, and Jesus Himself is almighty God, the “exact imprint of His nature.” Your situation is not out of control. It’s not random or accidental chance. All things, even your crisis, are working as He has planned and is overseeing, for whatever reason He deems. He does all things according to His good purpose and will, and all things work together for good. Your crisis is not wasted.
The best and most important truth you can know and hold on to in your crisis is that He has made “purification for sins” and has sat down at God’s right hand. Your sins are forgiven if you are His child. He sat down and He has finished His work. There is no other sacrifice for sin besides His offering of Himself. And, He sits at God’s right hand; this is the place of greatest honor and authority in the universe. If you know and follow Him, if you are born again, if He is your Lord and Savior, then your sins are forgiven. You have peace with God. You are innocent and adopted into His family. This is the best place to be in the middle of your crisis.
What does all of this mean in your present crisis? Jesus is the best person to know in your crisis. He is speaking to you. He is in control. He has forgiven you of your sins. You are in the best place you can be, even in the crisis. The crisis seems large, but God is bigger. Your crisis will end, but God’s love for you will not. There is hope in your crisis today. Christ is in your crisis.
