Christmas Eve service

Central Plains Church will have a Christmas Eve service on Christmas Eve starting at 6:30 pm. We’ll also be having regular church worship on December 27, starting at 10:30 am. You can’t cancel Christmas. Yes, you do what’s best for your family. Sure, take precautions as needed and what you feel is right and safe. But Christmas itself can’t and won’t be canceled. Christmas is a historical event, from God.

God is the most glorious and wonderful creature in all the universe, worthy of all glory, worship, and praise. In the beginning, God spoke and created and everything was good. His crowning achievement was Adam and Eve and they enjoyed fellowship and community together. Then they disobeyed and rebelled against God’s holiness; this is sin. Death, slavery, stain, and destruction entered the world, for Adam and Eve and all humanity. Fellowship and communion were broken and God’s wrath against sin burned. God is love and loves the world, His creation, man and woman, but justice and punishment for their crime must be served. How could this problem be fixed? God began His plan of redemption, to remove the stain of sin and save and restore a people for Himself.

The life of a creature is in its blood. In the Old Testament God began a system of animal sacrifices, to atone for sin, to make the substitution punishment for man’s transgression. But the blood of bulls, goats, and sheep could never satisfy God’s wrath. These sacrifices pointed forward to the best, perfect, only solution: Himself. He sent His Son, Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, more valuable than any amount of gold or silver, to shed His blood in place of man’s. He who knew no sin became sin so that we who are in sin may become righteous. “Jesus, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.  And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” God loved the world so much He sent His Son, and all who would believe in Him would be born again and have everlasting life. If you have faith in Jesus and His work, you are born again. God gives you new life, a soft heart, His Spirit, and freedom from sin and punishment. And one day He will return to claim His people to take them home. That will be a glorious day!

This is the story of Christmas. This is the truth of Christmas. God incarnate arrived, Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God and Son of man, born of the virgin. He came to live and die and live again. He returned to His Father and will come back to claim His people and kingdom one day. You can’t cancel this and it won’t be canceled, any more than you can cancel 2+3=5. It exists independent of your belief, but believe today, and you will be saved from His wrath and destruction. He will still punish sin. Don’t find yourself on the wrong side.
